  • Our favorite ski jacket this past winter. The Swelter rides cold chair lifts like a champ, keeps you warm while watching an alpine sunrise, and covers all the right places when the cold hits. Extra length in the torso keeps your butt warm sitting on a pack or riding a lift. Stretchy cuffs slide over gloves easily, and the helmet-compatible hood fits over both climbing and skiing helmets. And we think it’s pretty cool the Power Fill™ insulation is made with 80% post-consumer recycled content.

One of my favorite jackets

Took this piece to a mountaineering course at Baker and was not disappointed in the least. The jacket's high amount of synthetic insulation was a huge asset in the cold, wet conditions of the Cascades, keeping me warm and comfortable during the 30 degree nights at camp and the freezing, windy conditions of the summit. Warmth and comfort aside, I was very impressed by the number of clever features built into the jacket that all served to make my life a whole lot easier. These included: an extra long length in the back to keep you warm while sitting on the snow; very nice cuffs that seal tightly on your wrist to keep in warmth, yet pull back easily to let you check your watch; and my personal favorite, interior mesh pockets that let you stash your snow-covered gloves and other items without fear of wetting out the jacket's inside. It's clear to me that this piece was built with mountaineers in mind, and the 100k promise definitely showed in the jacket's high performance and many technical features. I would strongly recommend the Swelter Jacket to any mountaineer looking for a solid, reliable and well-designed piece of insulation.
